I’m a 27-year old college graduate from the Philadelphia area, headed to Ethiopia for 2.25 years to serve in the Peace Corps as a Secondary School (read: High School) English Teacher. I’m (going to be) the Ethiopian equivalent of a HS foreign language teacher…and I’m thoroughly excited about it.

Hopefully, each post is a good mix of humorous and informative. I’m trying to shun my natural tendency of writing “stream of consciousness”/brain dump jumbles, but I apologise in advance if I fail.

I’m chronicling my whole journey, from beforeĀ I knew where I was headed, through to my return to the US. To make it more coherent, I’veĀ organized the posts by content.

Application Process Posts

Pre-service clearance, paperwork and packing posts

Non-Peace Corps ramblings and reflections

Maybe you always wanted to join the Peace img_4825Corps but got distracted by life. Maybe you thinkĀ 27 months is a ridiculously long time to spend in another country without running water or electricity and are curious what kind of person would want to do that. Maybe you know me and are wondering what I’m up to. Or, maybe you’re procrastinating your own application by reading all the blogs you can find.

No matter why you’re here, thank you for stopping by!

  1. Hi Mari,

I hope you’re doing well and adjusting to your new adventure. It must be very exciting living in another country and getting to know the people, but stay safe.
